Nick Gerber is living out a childhood dream.

The Tyler Junior Community quarterback accepted a preferred walk-on position and elected to transfer to Texas Tech. He’s expected to get on campus and be with the team in the spring semester.

“I’m excited for a great opportunity and I’m excited to get to play for my childhood dream school,” Gerber said through text message.

In eight games played, Gerber threw for 624 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions for the Apaches (5-4) last season. He battled with former TCU signee Brennen Wooten (1,003 yards, 12 TDs, four INTs) for the starting spot.

Gerber’s best statistical outing was a 254-yard, one-touchdown performance in a 17-14 loss to New Mexico Military Institute.

But many college coaches remember his success with the Levelland football team.

As a senior, Gerber threw for 5,617 yards and 77 touchdowns — both single-season marks in the Lone Star State — and led the Lobos to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and then the fourth round, which was the program’s farthest postseason run in 66 years.
