1. Lubbock Christian (HS): The Eagles, who went 31-5-1 a year ago, have dominated TAPPS 3A the past four years and won the state championship the last three seasons. Lubbock Christian, which returns Texas Tech signee Jaden Fowler on the mound and in the outfield, will try to win its fourth title under second-year coach and former Red Raiders catcher Jeremy Mayo. 2. Lubbock-Cooper: The Pirates, who finished last season 18-15, return a bevy of talent including Texas Tech signees Connor Denham and Trey Garlett and Northwestern signee Tommy D’Alise. 3. Coronado: The Mustangs will have to plug in some holes in their lineup, but they are the returning District 4-5A champions. Coronado went 24-13 last year and advanced to the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs. 4. Levelland: Lobos coach Brent Paris guided his team to a 32-6 record and to the Class 4A regional semifinals last season. Levelland, which won the District 2-4A championship last season, will try to pick up where it left off last year with returners Jorge Mendiaz, Tanner Marrow and Zack Estrada. 5. Borden County: With limited time to practice as a full unit, the Coyotes still managed to reach the Class 1A state tournament for the first time last year. Borden County finished the season 12-5. 6. Post: The Antelopes, who went 26-6 last year, reached the Class 2A regional semifinals and won the District 4-2A. Post pitcher Kobe Ammons, who was named the district’s MVP, should help the team remain competitive and in the running to repeat as district champs. 7. Frenship: The Tigers narrowly missed out hoisting the District 2-6A trophy last year. Mason Weathers and Brock Erculiani are returners from a Frenship team that went 23-10 in 2017. 8. Shallowater: The Mustangs went 23-7-1 last season and won the District 2-3A championship. With district MVP Zach Aragon returning in the lineup, Shallowater is a team to look out for in the spring. 9. Floydada: The Whirlwinds won the District 3-2A championship and advanced to the regional quarterfinals. However, Floydada will have to fill in several on its roster from a 19-11 team a year ago. 10. New Deal: The Lions were District 3-2A runner-ups and advanced to the area round of the playoffs last season. New Deal returns the district MVP in Jett Whitfield, who will help anchor the team’s lineup.
