When the Lobos visit the Matadors, records will be thrown out the window.

The District 3-4A rivals meet for the first time at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Estacado with both squads vying for their first district win.

“It’s kind of a big game for both groups,” said Levelland coach Brent Paris, whose team is 10-12 overall and 0-1 in district. “It’s just always a dog fight.”

The Lobos are a younger team from a season ago, but return some players who ventured with the senior class of 2017 to the Class 4A regional semifinals. Of said players are Zack Estrada, Tanner Marrow and Jorge Mendiaz.

That being said, neither team underestimates what the opposing dugout brings to the field.

“They are a good team, a quality team,” said Matador coach Mark Llanas, whose team is 10-11, 0-1. “They have a lot of experience from last year’s run. We are going to have our hands full trying to match up with them.”

Estacado sophomore Johnny Gomez has had a standout season and could be an X-factor in the contest while Bo Sims is a threat on the mound.

The winner of the game will get back on track toward a playoff berth.
