Noah Ochoa, Soph., Levelland

The sophomore catcher went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, a double and a triple in the Lobos’ 13-3 win over Dalhart to win a Class 4A bidistrict series last week.

Ochoa took on a new role this season and has been successful.

“He is a selfless player,” Levelland coach Brent Paris said. “He is getting hot and we moved him (to catcher) this year. He is one of the better catchers in the area. That is a testament to his work ethic and selflessness to move positions and stuff to help us.”

Ochoa received 42.7 percent of the votes in the Lone Star Varsity Athletes of the Week poll.

The Lobos (20-14) face Monahans (16-14) at 1 p.m. Friday at Abilene Christian University in Game 1 of their Class 4A area series with a second game slated for 4 p.m. If necessary, a third game will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday.
