CLASS 6A-4A

1. Lubbock-Cooper (6-0)

The Pirates earned a 42-0 win at Plainview last week. Up next is a big test against a Wichita Falls Rider team that also is expected to contend for the District 3-5A Division II title.

2. Coronado (6-1)

The Mustangs earned a gritty win against Amarillo High to advance to 3-0 in the District 2-5A Division I standings. Seth Parr and company should expect chief rival Monterey’s best game Friday.

3. Estacado (5-2)

Estacado is doing what was expected of it early in District 2-4A Division II. This week’s opponent is Dalhart on Thursday.

4. Snyder (5-1)

The Tigers edged Monahans last week to remain one of two unbeatens in the District 1-4A Division II standings. Someone’s going to take the group’s lead when Greenwood visits Snyder on Friday.

5. Frenship (3-3)

Frenship will try to even out its district record Friday at Midland High after dropping the District 2-6A opener to Midland Lee.

6. Levelland (3-2)

The Lobos get their first crack at District 2-4A Division II after spending two weeks idle due to a canceled game and their scheduled open date. Hopefully there won’t be early rust when Borger visits town Friday.

7. Monterey (2-4)

The Plainsmen get their shot at No. 2 Coronado this week, and a win would be huge. Monterey can probably scrape into the playoffs by winning three of its final four games.

8. Seminole (3-3)

An up-and-down non-district schedule wrapped up last week with a 29-28 loss to Brownfield. The Indians, who will automatically qualify for the playoffs from a four-team district, have another week to prepare for a 1-6 San Angelo Lake View team.

9. Plainview (1-5)

The Bulldogs are about out of runway after last week’s 42-0 loss to Lubbock-Cooper. They’ll host Canyon Randall in their second District 3-5A Division II game.

10. Lubbock High (1-6)

The seemingly more winnable District 2-5A Division I games for Lubbock High have passed. The Westerners will fight for their playoff lives against Abilene Cooper and then have Amarillo High and Monterey to close out the regular season.
