1. Lubbock-Cooper (5-0)

A promising District 3-5A Division II schedule begins for the Pirates against No. 8 Plainview on Friday. Cooper outscored non-district opponents 215-133.

2. Coronado (5-1)

There haven’t been problems for the Mustangs in spite of injuries wiping out three starting linebackers. Defensive lineman DJ Davis is making up for the losses with a tied-for-area-best 14 tackles for loss heading into a big game versus Amarillo.

3. Estacado (4-2)

District 2-4A Division II play begins for the Matadors on Friday at Borger on the heels of a two-game win streak.

4. Frenship (3-2)

The Tigers have a big test Friday hosting Midland Lee, but their non-district season was a smashing success with very modest expectations following last year’s winless campaign.

5. Snyder (4-1)

Snyder downed an unbeaten Fort Stockton team last week and the gauntlet continues Friday at Monahans. Quarterback Logan Greene eclipsed 1,000 passing yards last week.

6. Levelland (3-2)

Lightning robbed the Lobos of a game last week. Hopefully two weeks off won’t be a problem when they host Borger on Oct. 19.

7. Seminole (3-2)

The Indians host a good Brownfield team on Friday after last week’s game against Levelland got rained out. Linebacker Dylan Stokes, a junior, is still the area’s tackle leader with 78.

8. Monterey (2-4)

Wayne Hutchinson has an opportunity to circle the wagons with an open date this week following a heart breaker to Amarillo High.

9. Plainview (1-4)

The Bulldogs face No. 1 Lubbock-Cooper this week to open District 3-5A Division II play.

10. Lubbock High (1-5)

There’s not much more margin for error left for the Westerners, who have to beat Amarillo Caprock on the road Thursday or their playoff hopes will be all but gone.
